Enhancing safety and efficiency in modern shredding operations
As shredding operations continue to evolve in response to increasing safety concerns and rising quality expectations, the need for innovation and best practices has never been greater. From fire prevention to advanced sorting technologies, the sector is actively adapting to meet today’s operational and regulatory challenges.
At the upcoming Shredder Committee plenary session in Gothenburg on Monday, 1 June 2026 (15:00–16:00), industry leaders will explore the current state of the global shredder landscape and the cutting-edge technologies redefining material recovery.
Under the chairmanship of Alton Scott Newell III, Newell Recycling Equipment (USA), the session will feature four high-impact presentations exploring the key developments shaping the future of shredding.
The global landscape
The session will open with Chairman Alton Scott Newell III, who will introduce the World Shredder List 2026. This essential industry benchmark provides a comprehensive overview of the global shredding infrastructure, offering key data on capacity and regional trends.
Safety & fire prevention
Fire safety remains a critical priority for every yard. George Adams, CEO of SA Recycling (USA), will present the Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) Fire Prevention Policy. Drawing on his extensive experience leading one of the world’s largest recycling operations, he will share practical insights and strategic approaches to mitigate risks and protect personnel and assets.
Advanced detection & AI
Addressing one of the industry's most persistent hazards, Raghav Mecheri, CEO of Visia AI (USA), will introduce an innovative lithium battery identification system. His presentation will demonstrate how advanced detection can intercept batteries before they enter the shredding process, significantly reducing the risk of thermal events at their source.
Robotic purity solutions
Closing the technical presentations, Michael McMenamin, Regional Sales Manager at Terex Recycling Systems/ZenRobotics (GBR), will showcase automated picking solutions. He will demonstrate how robotics can remove copper windings from shredded steel, enabling recyclers to meet the strictest quality specifications with minimal manual intervention.
The session will conclude with an interactive Q&A, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers on the future of shredding technology and safety management.
Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights into safety, innovation and operational efficiency in shredding in an increasingly automated world.
